Fall-Winter Trends: As Seen on the Catwalk

Navigation

This year fashion capitals around the world highlighted the latest creations of well-known designers for their fall and winter collection. From Paris to Milan, and London to New York, we have seen a variety of winter looks inspired by the classic early-1970s to the 1980s punk era. We have chosen to delve into three trends for you that also feature in our latest autumn collection. Whether you are a fashionista or not, these trends will definitely peak your interest!

1. Return to the Past

This new season welcomes retro looks that are up to date and trendy. The objective is to modernize elements from the past in order to appeal to the consumers of today! The runways were replete with looks that featured tweed, cashmere prints, balloon sleeves, culottes, and tartans just to name a few. Just as this new trend inspired us in our autumn collection, let our autumn collection inspire you as well!

2. The Art of Pantsuits

Made popular for women in the 1960s by Yves Saint-Laurent, the pantsuit is seeing a resurgence once again this season. On fashion runways, we have seen it worn many different ways – including with round collars, hoods, and large shoulder pads – and made with different fabrics that vary from sequin to satin to velour.  At Laura and Melanie Lyne, we focused on mixing and matching prints and colours to give you an eclectic collection you can have fun with as well. Are you ready to experiment?

3. Bold Colours

“The autumn-winter 2019/2020 colours are rich in tones and suggest a versatility that brings together warmth and harmony,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institue. According to her, the color palette of the season is both sophisticated and bold, and evokes a certain sense of confidence. So feel free to experiment with colours that are warm and bright like reds, burgundies, and even oranges. With our new collection, you will have many pieces that will certainly brighten up your wardrobe!

Which trend has your attention this season?

Straight from Northern France, Pauline has great admiration for “baked-just-right-baguettes”, waffles, and sweets at brunch. Films from the '80s and '90s are almost a religion, and she adores reciting memorized lines from her favourite movies at any given time. Since she moved to Quebec, Pauline has developed a passionate curiosity for the reoccurring discrepancies between the “current temperature” and the “feels like temperature” advertised on The Weather Network. She also likes: reading in the metro, strumming the strings of her ukulele while dreaming of beaches and sunshine, trips to exotic places, Barcelona and Güell architecture (and let’s not forget sangria of course), cats, Tom Hanks, Bill Murray, and The Beatles.
