For most of us, the excitement of a new year brings on the motivation to reassess habits and set new goals. When it comes to fashion, we also like to take advantage of this period to either define or redefine our style. The question on everyone’s mind: what will our closets look like during the first quarter of 2019? Let’s take a look at the most-loved trends this winter:

1. Cold-shoulder

A trend that keeps coming back well after making its appearance during the warm summer months; the cold-shoulder look proves that it’s here to stay. Embellished with subtle details or paired with a classic elasticized neckline, your shoulders will steal the spotlight and make you look stunning.

2. Faux fur

Symbol of luxury and wealth, fur coats are making a comeback this winter. Although this time around we seem to be moving away from the real thing, and opting for a synthetic version that used to be criticized for its low-grade quality. The cruelty-free alternative that more and more brands are adopting is growing in popularity.

3. Hello, velvet

Say goodbye to the corduroy pants that are still haunting us all (let’s be honest!), and welcome a much sleeker version of the classic fabric. As understated inserts or lavish finishes, velvet resurfaces in all its glory, and displays elegant lustre on modern designs: appearing on tops, dresses, and even pants. This softer-than-ever look will make you feel bad for mocking the unsightly styles from the past.

4. One-piece wonder

The jumpsuit is the epitome of the term “ready-to-wear”. Over are the days of the all-too-familiar wardrobe crisis, since looking polished with one single piece has never been easier. Practical, comfortable, and distinguished, you will love it so much you won’t want to take it off.

5. Precious metals

Get ready for blinding shimmer, because silver fabrics and metallic fibres are no longer reserved for holiday parties. In 2019, dare to be bold in cuts with eye-catching beauty, and don’t be shy to own that scintillating glow!

6. A touch of Scotland

Inspired by the grunge or preppy trends, plaid is a chameleon that adapts to its habitat, playing nicely with all other trends. Designed for the rebel soul—or the more conservative one—this look is a wear-everywhere favourite that stands the test of time.

7. Sheer elegance

In the mood for a game of hide and seek? Show just enough skin to create intrigue with sheer chiffon, alluring mesh details, and delicate lace… Whatever the design, these details will turn you into a master of subtle attraction.

8. Rare pearls

It is said that diamonds are a girl’s best friend…but women prefer pearls, don’t they? Straight from jewellery box to closet, these precious spheres polish even the most minimalistic pieces. They know just how to transform a simple sweater, or little black dress into a gem!

9. Animal instinct

Preyed on by fashionistas, animal prints show some teeth and come out on top as the style of the season. And just like the majestic king of the jungle, leopard print reigns over fall-winter collections. Will you succumb to the ferocious charm of this fancy feline look?

10. Pleated fabrics

The pleated skirt convinced us long ago that it is an essential wardrobe piece that can’t be ignored. And it did not take long for us to welcome it as such. Now, pleats are seen on sleeves or as a playful detail on the back of blouses and sweaters.
