Let’s Redefine Prom Queen

There is so much to think about before prom night. Top priorities include finding a date, picking a colour for a corsage and searching for something to wear. Let me tell you, the biggest task is finding the perfect dress—after that, everything else falls into place.

Since February, Laura Canada prom dresses have been charming future graduates with their modern flair and sophisticated sparkle. That said, I know what you’re going to ask, “what’s so special about your Laura and Melanie Lyne prom dress collections?” That’s a good question because this isn’t the first time the brand offered dresses for the occasion. How is this collection different? Its uniqueness is in who we envision dressing for prom.

At the end of December, Laura Canada started the search for a team of aspiring prom royalty. We were on the lookout for dynamic girls who would attend prom at the end of the year. The girls had to represent the beauty of diversity and challenge the prom queen stereotype. After a casting call in Toronto, we found our prom queens Dae, Matilda, Rebecca, Kathleen and Monica. We loved getting to know them while highlighting their authenticity and personalities in our campaign.

After a flurry of dress fitting sessions and photoshoots, the prom campaign debuted on social media and in the 40 Canadian stores.

Now, prom season is quickly approaching and I’m sure you know a prom queen in your entourage! It’s the best time to let them know that it isn’t too late to find the perfect dress.

Own the Prom Collection: most-loved trends

1. Flower power

A floral print is always in season for prom! The summer weather is starting to heat up and what better way to embrace it than to wear a captivating print on a long jersey skirt.

2. Sultry

With a deep illusion neckline and an elegant side slit, a prom queen can feel equal parts sexy and glamorous in a dress. It’s exciting to feel confident, right?

3. Tulle

Watch out Cinderella! Our ball gowns make graduates feel like princesses. When else will they get to wear an exaggerated tulle skirt and a crystal detailed bustier?

4. All that glitters

For fans of sequins and lace, our collection has it all. The detail on our dresses have a way of making anyone wearing them steal the spotlight.

Straight from Northern France, Pauline has great admiration for “baked-just-right-baguettes”, waffles, and sweets at brunch. Films from the '80s and '90s are almost a religion, and she adores reciting memorized lines from her favourite movies at any given time. Since she moved to Quebec, Pauline has developed a passionate curiosity for the reoccurring discrepancies between the “current temperature” and the “feels like temperature” advertised on The Weather Network. She also likes: reading in the metro, strumming the strings of her ukulele while dreaming of beaches and sunshine, trips to exotic places, Barcelona and Güell architecture (and let’s not forget sangria of course), cats, Tom Hanks, Bill Murray, and The Beatles.
