As the days get shorter, it’s normal to need extra help to get going in the morning. Between natural light becoming scarce, temperatures cooling down and the hectic back to school rush, a caffeinated drink might be just what you need to start your day off on the right foot. After all, what is more energizing than a specialty coffee? If you’re done throwing away $5.95 on a latte at your neighbourhood coffee shop every day, start making your very own magic potion at home.
1. Café liégois
If you believe in mixing business with pleasure, why not add a scoop of ice cream to your espresso. Warning: You will get addicted to the creamy texture and rich taste of this delightful combination. The contrast between hot and cold is unexpected yet enjoyable.
2. Cardamom latte
Although pumpkin spice seems to be the go-to flavour during fall, why not dare to be different. Live on the edge and try a pinch of cardamom instead. It has a soothing taste with a hint of exotic je ne sais quoi. A very popular recipe in India and the Middle East.
3. White chocolate moka
A cup of this warm, decadent drink will seduce any chocolate lover. A reinvented take on the traditional mocha, this white chocolate and black coffee pairing topped with whipped cream, lends a velvety texture with a delectable taste. Who knew a cup of joe could be so comforting!
4. Latte with hazelnut mousse
Need something to help you unwind? Although chocolate and hazelnut usually go hand in hand with breakfast, this recipe may not be suitable for mornings, since it contains liqueur. Unless, of course, you come from the it’s 12 o’clock somewhere school of thought. If you’re not much of a baker, this little piece of heaven can also replace dessert when entertaining.
Whenever you wake up with the dreadful feeling of wanting to stay in bed, perhaps the thought of one of these invigorating recipes hitting your tongue will give you enough motivation to crawl out from under the covers.
