5 Reasons to Try Natural Products

It seems like over the past few years we’ve all started taking our overall health and well-being more seriously.  Physical activity is the new way to relax after work, plant-based diets are more common and people are discovering the benefits of meditation.

But, with the abundance of biased information on the internet, it’s hard to differentiate the latest fads from what is actually good for you. One thing is—unfortunately—true; many beauty products are full of chemicals that you don’t necessarily want in or on your body.

Your skin deserves better

Skin is the human body’s largest organ. So, it’s no surprise that everything you put on your skin has a chance of finding its way into your body. Take nicotine patches for example. The patch is applied directly on skin so that the product is absorbed into the body quickly and efficiently. That’s why it’s so important to be aware of the ingredients in cosmetics.

Natural products are easy to find

There was definitely a time when natural products were less accessible than they are now. Buying them would require a trip to a specialty store. Today, you can pick up natural products in big department stores, pharmacies and even online. The only thing to look out for is greenwashing. This marketing technique consists of using key words like natural or green that are sometimes mistaken for a certification.

If this makes you skeptical of product packaging, don’t fret! You won’t have to learn chemical names by heart to make your shopping experience easier. You can turn to apps like Think Dirty. There you can find ingredient lists and toxicity ratings for specific products. You’ll also find more information on hormone disruptors, carcinogens, allergens, and toxic chemicals.

Natural products are gentle & effective

Natural products are usually much less abrasive on your skin because the body recognizes natural ingredients. Unless you have an allergy, you’re less likely to react to natural products than you are to conventional cosmetics.

So forget the rumors. Natural products actually do work. You probably won’t find a natural cream that gives you anti-aging results in three days or less, but with long-term use you can reap the same kind of benefits. And as an added bonus, it won’t irritate your skin. Remember, no matter what products you use, the key to healthy looking skin is moisture and protection from the sun.

Amazing scents & textures

Many different scents and textures come into play while making natural products. Companies often use essential oils as a base, making scents more potent and enjoyable. There is also an array of different products specific to your skin type. Lotions, creams or balms, there’s something for everyone. Your skin will thank you later!

They’re better for the environment

Organic products don’t have pesticides or toxins that are bad for the environment when, for example, they’re rinsed down the drain or dumped outside. Several companies also use reusable or recycled packaging to reduce their carbon footprints. You may even be able to use less packaging by buying your favourite natural products in bulk.

If you’ve been thinking of making the switch to natural products, don’t worry it doesn’t have to be done all at once. The key is to change your products gradually. That way you’re left with less waste and no stress!
