‘Tis the season to be jolly, but ‘tis also the season to sparkle & shine! This means that we’re slowly inching towards the end of the calendar year (shocker, right?) and that party season is in full swing. Alas, we finally get to have fun with our wardrobe, as retailers stock up on sparkly and glittery items. One thing we know for sure is that, with holiday events, comes added stress and the infamous, “What do I wear?” question. The dress code for office parties can get quite blurred: Do you wear a cocktail dress? A sophisticated evening gown? Or a sleek pantsuit? When it comes to the festive season, the selection is quite plentiful, so it can become difficult to decide on which outfit to wear. You may end up pulling a Carrie Bradshaw, as you find yourself sitting on your bed on a pile of shiny clothing.

This year, we’re here to help you look as glamorous as all your holiday parties with our roundup. Forget the tinsel and impress your friends and family with sequins, velvets and metallics.

Sequins & Shimmer

Have you ever thought that an overabundance of glistening fabrics could come off as tacky? You’re not alone. On the contrary, sequins are beloved in the fashion world and hit the runways every year. Now, we’re basically going to encourage you to get up, get into the holiday spirit and put on that sequin piece!

Be carefree and joyful at your next holiday party with fashion’s glossiest embellishment. The only rule during the festive season is to glow in this glitzy fabric – it’s the most wonderful time of the year, after all. The jolly embellishment can be worn many ways; from tops, to evening gowns, to pants – there’s a shimmering look for everyone. With sequins, pushing the borders of your imagination is easy. If you want to light up the room, opt for a sequin dress or jumpsuit and throw on a sparkly blazer. However, if your mood is always “comfort over everything,” pair a bright top with your favourite jeans.

‘Tis the season of the sequin!

All that Glitters

…is gold, right? Just like sequins, metallics are the number one thing to wear at a holiday party. If you’re feeling a bit blinded by all the glitter, this holiday classic allows you to ditch the “out there” luminous look for something more minimalistic. With metallic pieces, your ensemble could be understated and elegant at the same time. A metallic dress alone is more subtle than a sequin gown, and a metallic top works festive miracles with jeans. Toeing the line between professional and chic can be difficult, but metallic pieces make getting dressed easier. Whatever you choose, this innately luxurious trend will provide a touch of seasonal flair.

Velvet Galore

Everyone from Meryl Streep to Santa Clause loves velvet – and there’s more to velvet than red velvet. With its eternal appeal, velvet has been the happening holiday staple for years now. And the best part about this glitzy fabric? It’s lushly rich and cold-climate friendly. With velvet, no longer is a dress simply a dress – remember that when picking out your party outfit. Even a top and pants, if rendered in velvet, evokes an element of romanticism because of the fabric’s slight sheen. The choice is ultimately yours on how you decide to wear this lustrous material. So, if you’re in need of a warm boost during the chilly months ahead, just slip into something velvet.

The holiday dress code is festive, so be merry and bright!

Born in the city of Montreal, Tania still lives with her loud Italian family because of the mouthwatering food she gets to ingest daily. An enthusiast of many things, Tania lives by the Latin aphorism, “carpe diem.” Known to many as Tania Bon Jovi, she is busy following her idol, Jon Bon Jovi, around the entire world and she got to meet her idol a few times, too. The other love of her life? Fashion. When Tania isn’t writing, she’s either attending a rock concert, wiping her own tears while watching a rom-com, at the newest hotspot in town, shopping online or pulling a sweat at the gym (kind of). Bitten by the travel bug over a decade ago, she can’t stay put in one place for too long. Catch her if you can!
